Please do not accuse me of swearing, because I am just asking a question to those who would reject the awesome news that we can escape hell and experience eternity in heaven through faith in Jesus Christ.

More than once I have heard someone respond to the notion of going to hell as being a more suitable place for them to be after they died.  “After all” they would respond, “that is where more of my friends are and I plan on going there to keep the party going.”  The huge problem with this kind of thinking is that they are very ignorant to the truth of what hell is really like.

What will hell be like?  Well, according to the Bible hell is:

1. An awful place.

The Bible uses some graphic words to describe hell.  The best known is the Greek word gehenna.  This was the word Jesus used to describe the place of punishment.  Gehenna was a place outside of Jerusalem that was used as a garbage dump where a fire consuming rubbish and waste burned continually.  Hell is described in the book of Revelation as the “fiery lake of burning sulfur” or simply as “the lake of fire.” (Rev. 19:20; 20:14,15).
